William John Manck (Bill), 85, Brandon, FL, passed away on August 13, 2020, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He died peacefully at home with his loving family by his side.
Bill was born on October 23rd, 1935, in New York, NY, to William C. and Dorothy Manck. Bill double lettered in Wrestling and Football in High School. Education was of the utmost importance to Bill. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Maine, his MBA from City College of New York and his Doctorate (ABD) at Syracuse University. Bill's dissertation was put on hold due to the birth of his first child. He was an active member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at the University of Maine. After Bill completed his undergraduate degree, he was drafted into the Army as a First Lieutenant Officer for 2 years, stationed in France.
Bill had many jobs throughout his career. His first job was handling Advertising and Marketing for Schraft's in Manhattan, NY. Bill loved the fast pace of New York City. He was a professor at SUNY Farmingdale and the University of Maine, Portland. Bill's final job was when he was hired to start and run the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) as an extension of the USF College of Business (Tampa, FL). He cherished the many relationships he created with countless business owners he met over the 20+ years he spent at the SBDC. Bill authored the book "Entrepreneurship: Florida Style" to help assist small business owners.
Bill was a devout Catholic and was active in the St. Francis of Assisi parish until his health diminished. He was a great father, husband, son, brother and grandfather. He was very generous to countless charities with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital holding a special place in his heart.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Barbara, of 59 years; his son Sean, and wife, Kristin; his son, Damian; two grandchildren, Cameron and Sarah, and sisters Jane Colgan, husband Edward, and Joan Canto.
Due to COVID, there will not be any services at this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
