Obituary

Mr. William (Bill) Griebel, Sr. passed away and made his journey to heaven on June 30, 2017 at the age of 76. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Crabtree Griebel; daughter, Gena Griebel Schaffer, and son William (Bill) Griebel Jr. He is grandfather to Rachel Schaffer Violin, and William Jr's three children. He is brother of Jane Lee Rust, Bonnie Barr, Rae Jean Elliott, and Rick Griebel. He is preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Lester of Belleville, Illinois; his grandson Christopher Schaffer and son-in-law Walter Schaffer of Valrico, Florida. Bill was born in Belleville, Illinois on August 19, 1940, where he lived from 1940 to 1985. On February 4, 1961 he married his sweetie, Linda. Bill and Linda raised their children, Billy and Gena, in the same town, surrounded by family. As a young man, Bill enjoyed working for his uncle, at Tribout's Carnival Supply, Toy Store, and Holiday House. Bill was dedicated to his community as a volunteer fireman for the Swansea Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Swansea Playground Association, and a Boy Scout leader. He was employed by Sunshine Biscuits/Keebler/Kellogg's for over 30 years and was always known as the "cookie man" to many people. He later lived in St. Charles, Missouri from 1985 to 1990. Bill and Linda decided to move to Oviedo, Florida in 1990, where he lived out his retirement through 2017. Bill was always known as a kind-hearted man with a smile on his face. He loved telling stories, making people laugh, spending time outside, working on home-improvement projects, sharing time with his loved ones, teaching life skills to his children and grandchildren, and enjoying some cookies and ice cream. His warm, gentle smile will always be remembered by those who love him. His wife, siblings, children, grandchildren, and fellow loved ones will always treasure the memories of Bill.
