On Wednesday, June 23, 2021 William "Bill" DuHamel, of Riverview FL passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 79. He was born on August 31, 1941, in Brooklyn NY to James and Elizabeth DuHamel. He was a graduate of North Babylon High School in Long Island, New York. He was a retired New York City police officer who received special honors during his service, as well as an extensive and active post-retirement career that included two-years overseas in Afghanistan his mid-60's and subsequently worked as a security officer at Brandon Towne Center until his mid-70's. Bill was a long-time resident of Riverview Florida who enjoyed playing golf, cycling, was active in the PBA's local1013 charter, and traveling to different countries. Bill served his country in the United States Air Force and spent much of his free-time actively volunteering with the James A. Haley Veteran's hospital. Preceded to heaven by his beloved wife, Gale Duhamel, parents James and Elizabeth DuHamel, and brothers James and Paul DuHamel. Lovingly survived by his son, William R. DuHamel, daughters Barbara Schnaare and Ronnie Sue Pratt; son in-laws Harold Schnaare and Oliver Pratt; grandchildren Jonathan Schnaare, Valerie Pratt, and Samantha Martinez; brother Philip "Phil" DuHamel (wife Sandra),sisters Dorothy "Dotsy" Cafone (husband Al), Elizabeth "Betsy" Haslim. brothers-in-laws Robert (wife Stephanie), Peter (wife Patricia), Melville "Mel" (wife Diane), and David Branscombe, along with many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life and Internment Service with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Bushnell National Cemetery, Bushnell FL with the family and friends welcome. The family will be receiving friends following the service at the home of Barbara Schnaare.
