Wilfredo "Freddy" Rivera Cabrera, 85, of Wimauma, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on August 22, 2026. He was born on January 23, 1941, in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, to Ricardo Rivera and Juanita Cabrera.

Wilfredo was the youngest boy of nine children, two boys and seven girls and, as the baby brother, he was undoubtedly spoiled, cherished, and very well-loved by his parents and sisters. That special place in the family never quite left him. He carried with him throughout his life a warmth and generosity that made people feel cared for and loved.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Throughout his life, Wilfredo remained committed to serving others. He was actively involved in his community and, among his many roles, served as President of the Lions Club in Puerto Rico. Helping others was not simply something he did; it was a reflection of who he was.

On May 26, 1966, Wilfredo married the love of his life, Norma Ramos. Together, they shared 60 years of marriage, building a life filled with family, love, laughter, and countless memories. His devotion to Norma was evident throughout their six decades together, and his family was always at the center of his heart. Above all, Freddy’s faith and his relationship with Jesus were the foundation of his life, guiding the way he loved, served, and cared for those around him. For the last 25 years, he was deeply involved in his local church, faithfully serving others and living out the faith that meant so much to him.

Wilfredo was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was especially known for his caring nature and his love for his nieces and nephews. His nieces would often playfully try to get him to reveal who his favorite niece was, a question he never answered.

He had a special way with children and was always wonderful with them. He also loved the beach, where he could enjoy the beauty and peace of the water. Whether surrounded by family, helping someone in his community, spending time with children, or simply enjoying the beach, Wilfredo found joy in the simple things and in the people he loved.

Wilfredo is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Norma Ramos; his children, Norma Rivera (Eric Hernandez), Wil Rivera (Conny), and Omar Rivera (Jenifer); and his grandchildren, Eric Johann, Christopher, Xavier, Joshua, Noah, Ryan, Cole, Emmy, Lauren, and Ava. His family will miss him dearly, but they will carry his love, his laughter, and his memory with them always.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo Rivera and Juanita Cabrera; his siblings, Juan Ricardo, Carmen, Carlota, Mary, and Luz Violeta; and his beloved grandchild, Evan Michael.

The family would like to extend their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to Esther Careño, who cared for Wilfredo during the last two years of his life with extraordinary dedication, compassion, and love. Her kindness and devotion brought comfort not only to Wilfredo, but also to the entire family, and for that, they will be forever grateful.

Wilfredo leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and a lifetime of memories that will be cherished for generations. He was a man who served his country, gave generously to his community, loved his family fiercely, and never missed an opportunity to make those around him feel special. Though he may no longer be with us, his love lives on in his children and grandchildren, in the family he cherished for 60 years, in the community he served, and in all those who were fortunate enough to know him.

There will be a visitation held for Wilfredo at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026 at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home with a service to begin at 10:30 a.m. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Sarasota National Cemetery.

Wilfredo “Freddy” Rivera Cabrera, de 85 años, de Wimauma, Florida, falleció pacíficamente en su hogar el 22 de agosto de 2026. Nació el 23 de enero de 1941 en Fajardo, Puerto Rico, hijo de Ricardo Rivera y Juanita Cabrera.

Wilfredo era el menor de los nueve hijos, dos varones y siete mujeres, y como el hermanito menor, sin duda fue consentido, querido y muy amado por sus padres y sus hermanas. Ese lugar tan especial que ocupaba en su familia nunca lo abandonó. A lo largo de su vida, llevó consigo una calidez y generosidad que hacía que quienes lo rodeaban se sintieran queridos, cuidados y especiales.

Obtuvo una licenciatura en Administración de Empresas y sirvió con orgullo a su país en el Ejército de los Estados Unidos durante la Guerra de Vietnam. A lo largo de su vida, Wilfredo permaneció comprometido con el servicio a los demás. Participó activamente en su comunidad y, entre sus muchos roles de servicio, se desempeñó como Presidente del Club de Leones en Puerto Rico. Ayudar a los demás no era simplemente algo que hacía; era un reflejo de quién era.

El 26 de mayo de 1966, Wilfredo se casó con el amor de su vida, Norma Ramos. Juntos compartieron 60 años de matrimonio, construyendo una vida llena de familia, amor, risas y recuerdos inolvidables. Su devoción por Norma fue evidente durante las seis décadas que compartieron juntos, y su familia siempre ocupó un lugar central en su corazón. Por encima de todo, la fe de Freddy y su relación con Jesús fueron el fundamento de su vida, guiando la manera en que amaba, servía y cuidaba a quienes lo rodeaban. Durante los últimos 25 años, estuvo profundamente involucrado en su iglesia local, sirviendo fielmente a los demás y viviendo la fe que significaba tanto para él.

Wilfredo fue un padre, abuelo, hermano, tío y amigo dedicado. Era especialmente conocido por su naturaleza bondadosa y por el gran amor que sentía por sus sobrinas y sobrinos. Sus sobrinas solían preguntarle en tono juguetón quién era su sobrina favorita, una pregunta que él nunca respondió.

Tenía un don especial con los niños y siempre se destacaba por su cariño y paciencia con ellos. También amaba la playa, donde podía disfrutar de la belleza y tranquilidad del mar. Ya fuera rodeado de su familia, ayudando a alguien de su comunidad, compartiendo con los niños o simplemente disfrutando de la playa, Wilfredo encontraba alegría en las cosas sencillas y, sobre todo, en las personas que amaba.

A Wilfredo le sobreviven su amada esposa de 60 años, Norma Ramos; sus hijos, Norma Rivera (Eric Hernandez), Wil Rivera (Conny) y Omar Rivera (Jenifer); y sus nietos, Eric Johann, Christopher, Xavier, Joshua, Noah, Ryan, Cole, Emmy, Lauren y Ava. Su familia lo extrañará profundamente, pero llevará consigo para siempre su amor, sus risas y su recuerdo.

Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Ricardo Rivera y Juanita Cabrera; sus hermanos, Juan Ricardo, Carmen, Carlota, Mary y Luz Violeta; y su amado nieto, Evan Michael.

La familia desea expresar su más profundo y sincero agradecimiento a Esther Careño, quien cuidó de Wilfredo durante los últimos dos años de su vida con extraordinaria dedicación, compasión y amor. Su bondad y entrega brindaron consuelo no solo a Wilfredo, sino también a toda la familia, y por ello le estarán eternamente agradecidos.

Wilfredo deja atrás una familia que lo amó profundamente y toda una vida de recuerdos que serán atesorados por generaciones. Fue un hombre que sirvió a su país, dio generosamente a su comunidad, amó profundamente a su familia y nunca perdió la oportunidad de hacer sentir especiales a quienes lo rodeaban. Aunque ya no esté físicamente con nosotros, su amor permanece vivo en sus hijos y nietos, en la familia que amó durante 60 años, en la comunidad a la que sirvió y en todos aquellos que tuvieron la dicha de conocerlo.

Habrá un velorio para Wilfredo a las 10:00 a. m. el lunes 31 de agosto de 2026, en Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, seguido por un servicio a las 10:30 a. m. Posteriormente, se llevará a cabo un servicio junto a su sepultura con honores militares en el Cementerio Nacional de Sarasota.
