Obituary

Mr. Wiley Turner, 95, of Riverview, Florida passed away on August 31, 2023, at Sun City Senior Living.  He was born March 22, 1928, in Garysburg, Northampton County, North Carolina to the late Charlie William Turner and Velvie Ann Baker Turner. Wiley was also preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonne Nancy Turner; his siblings, Edith Turner Scott, Blonnie Turner Ray Tomlinson, William "Bryant" Turner, Seenie Turner, Smithey Turner, William Turner, Linwood Turner, Doris Marie Turner Johnson, Katie Mae Turner, and Waymon Lee Turner.

In 1948, Wiley entered the U.S. Air Force because he would "rather fly than swim or walk." During his 23 years, 9 months, and 16 days in the service, he served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and traveled many places throughout the world, including Japan, Germany, Morocco, Vietnam, and Spain.

After retiring from the military, he went to school on the GI Bill and had a second career in real estate, and then at Sears. After a second retirement and some travel, Wiley decided to go back to school for hotel management. Then, during a hospitality law course, he met the love of his life, Doris Johnson Herron. Wiley and Doris made a life together for 30 years. During that time, Wiley became an active member at Providence Baptist Church and was baptized in the Jordan River.

Wiley had a love for his family and made sure that they held the Turner family reunion every year in North Carolina. He loved to travel in his motorhome and take his family on excursions and cruises. He loved Florida and showed it off to visiting family. Wiley enjoyed growing fresh fruit, gardening, and sharing his zeal for living healthy!

He is survived by Doris, of Florida; his daughter, JoAnn Turner Loucks and husband Gail, of Nevada; his granddaughter, Rachel Loucks Emens and husband Jeff; great grandchildren, Evangeline Emens and Theodore Emens, of Nevada; Doris' children, George, Phyllis, and Martin, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and many other friends and family.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, September 8, 2023, at Providence Baptist Church, 5416 Providence Rd, Riverview, Florida 33578.

The family will receive friends at 11:00 AM, one hour prior to service. The burial will be private.
