Walter Elwood Woody' Byers, 84, passed away on June 24, 2017. He was born in Three Rivers, MI on November 18, 1932 and was the 5th son of Walter Roy' and Ada (nee Bell) Byers. He proudly served in the US Navy for 4 years and was in the Naval Reserves for 4 years. He was an avid Cubs fan and had season tickets to the Notre Dame football games for over 50 years. He enjoyed playing pool, walking and hanging' at the pool where he lived. He was a member of the South Bend Elks Lodge #235 and of NARFE. He retired from the USDA as an Auditor. He then became a successful Realtor for Jack Hickey Homes. After retiring the second time, he moved to Sun City Center, FL from South Bend, IN. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Floyd, Lawrence, and William. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol; son, Thomas; daughter, Pamela (Paul) Kunas; his precious grandchildren; his sister-in law, Dorothy Byers; his brothers-in-law, John Dale' Shatz and Donald Dean' Shatz; and several nieces and nephews. There will be an inurnment at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 11:30 am.
