Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of MCPO Walter E. Raysick Sr., a remarkable man who lived a life filled with love, service, and dedication. Walter was born on August 26, 1939, and after a life well-lived, he peacefully departed from this world on January 9, 2024. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maryann Raysick, with whom he shared 58 beautiful years of marriage.

Walter leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his cherished sons, Dominick Anthony and W. Eugene Jr., and their wives Janet H. Raysick and Christina C. Raysick. These sons were a source of pride and joy for Walter, and he took great pleasure in watching them grow into the remarkable individuals they are today. Additionally, Walter was a doting grandfather to his granddaughters, Olivia and Selah Raysick, who brought immeasurable happiness to his life.

Walter's commitment to serving his country was unwavering. He dedicated thirty years of his life to the United States Navy, from 1959 to 1989. During his distinguished military career, Walter demonstrated immense bravery and courage. He served his nation with honor, including a deployment to Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. During this time, he served aboard the hospital ship Sanctuary and also in county at Da Nang. Walter's selflessness and dedication to his fellow servicemen were a testament to his character.

Beyond his military service, Walter was deeply involved in his community. He was an active volunteer with the Olney Lions Club, Veterans Council of Hillsborough County, and Marine Corps League, Riverview detachment 1226. Through these organizations, he made a significant impact on the lives of others, lending a helping hand and providing support to those in need. Walter's dedication to service extended beyond his military duties, and he found great fulfillment in giving back to his community.

A memorial service to honor Walter E. Raysick Sr. will be held on May 24th at 11:00 am at Serenity Meadows in Riverview, FL. This serene location will provide a fitting setting to celebrate his life and bid him farewell. Following the service, a reception will be held at the American Legion in Riverview, Florida. This gathering will give family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Walter an opportunity to come together, share stories, and find solace in each other's company.

Walter E. Raysick Sr. will forever be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering dedication, and love for his family and community. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
