Obituary

Hardin, Virginia E. (Ginger), 78, passed away on September 30, 2011 after a short illness. Ginger was born and raised in New Jersey. Miss Hardin enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War and served for three years. As a radio operator and instructor, she flew in cargo planes and bombers. She was employed for many years as a group leader in electronic assembly at Burroughs Tube Division in New Jersey. She became the only woman among 100 officers and men when she joined the 9017th Air Reserve Squadron as a radio repairman. Miss Hardin graduated as an RN from Martland Hospital in New Jersey in the 70's. She became a foster mom to many handicapped children, raising one, Jimmy from infancy. She retired to FL and joined the local VFW, American Legion and was a co-founder of a Marine Corps League. She was survived by a sister, Janet H. Cornetta and husband John of Lyman Lake, SC; three nieces, Elizabeth Barnes and her husband Clayton of W. Palm Beach, FL, Janet Cummings and her husband Scott of Lake Worth, FL, and JoEllen Kniffin of Landrum, SC. Ginger was the great-aunt of Jennifer Cesta, Michael Cesta, Amanda Barnes, CJ Barnes, Christine Cummings, Tyler Cummings, AJ Kniffin and Nicholas Kniffin. She will be missed by her cousins Pat and Dick White of Riverview, FL. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 4:00 pm at the American Legion Post 148 7240 US Hwy 301 S. Riverview, FL 33569.
