Obituary

Violet C. Apollonio of Saint Petersburg FL passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at La Orilla Senior Living in Saint Petersburg, Fl. She was born September 5, 1921 in Bronx, New York, the daughter of the late Eliseo and Marie Teresa (Lombardi) Iamiceli. In addition to her parents,

Violet was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years Michael Apollonio. Violet graduated from Morris High School in Bronx, New York in 1938 and worked as an information operator for Bell Telephone. Following the breakout of World War II, she volunteered as a local 'Air Raid Warden' and hostess for the USO. Violet and her family relocated to Piscataway, New Jersey in 1952 where she continued her volunteer activities as
a member of the local volunteer fire departments' 'Ladies Auxiliary', as a 'Den Mother' for Cub Scouts, and as a volunteer for Saint Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Violet worked for the U.S. Postal Service in New Jersey into the 1970's. In 1997, a number of years after her retirement from the Postal Service and Michael's death, Violet relocated to Ormond Beach Florida where she again engaged in a number of community volunteer activities including a position with the Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial Medical Center.

In 2017 at the age of 96 Violet moved to an 'independent living facility' in Saint Petersburg FL. to be closer to family and relieved of the need to keep up with the daily chores of home ownership. She quickly became well known for her compassionate spirit and willingness to help others… not because of any obligation, but rather because of who she was.

Violet's love and commitment to her family and communities are gifts that will not soon be forgotten. She had an unwavering faith in god and always instilled the value of service to others before self. Those left to cherish Violet's memory include her two sons Thomas (and wife Chantal) of
Culpeper Virginia and Peter (and wife Anna) of Treasure Island Florida, four grandchildren Stephen Apollonio (and wife Mary) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, David Apollonio of Culpeper, Virginia, Christopher Apollonio of Saint Petersburg Florida, and Stacey Odle (and husband Jason) of Lincoln, Nebraska, two great grandchildren Brianna Apollonio daughter of Stephen and Mary, and Addison daughter of Stacey and Jason along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
