LONG, THOMAS G., Tom, age 81 of Brandon, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on Monday April 23, 2012 following a period of declining health. He was born December 16, 1930 in Rockingham, NC. He was a lifelong Baptist and member of the First Baptist Church of Brandon. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and retired from JC Penny Company after 42 years of service. He is predeceased by a son, Thomas "Tommy" G. Long III. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Iris; four sons, Gregory of Tampa, Alan of Brandon, John of Orlando and Stephen (Cindy) of Jacksonville; one daughter, Marcia (Gary) Schaefer of Valrico; three grandchildren, Gary II, Lori and Kristen (T.C.); and one great grandchild, Lily. A Funeral services to honor his life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday April 27, 2012 at 1st Baptist Church of Brandon. The family will receive friends an hour before services. Interment will follow at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park.
