Thomas “Tom” D’Aiuto

Thomas “Tom” D’Aiuto passed away on September 5, 2026, at the age of 68.

Tom was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, on October 13, 1957, to John Frances D’Aiuto and Maryanna “Mary” Marshalsea D’Aiuto. One of seven children, he spent his childhood in Central Florida and Northern California before graduating from Palo Alto High School in 1975. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Saint Leo University.

Tom began a career in law enforcement with the Temple Terrace Police Department in 1979. During his 16 years of service, he rose through the ranks and ultimately retired as Sergeant of Detectives in 1995. After leaving law enforcement, he continued his investigative work in the private sector, founding D’Aiuto Investigations and building a long career as a private investigator.

Away from work, Tom had an appetite for adventure and rarely seemed content to stay in one place for very long. He traveled extensively throughout his life, exploring destinations including Italy, Egypt, Thailand, Jerusalem, Iceland, and many others. Closer to home, he could often be found on his motorcycle with his friends from the Tampa Bay chapter of the Defenders Motorcycle Club.

But some of Tom’s happiest days were spent on the water. He loved boating, fishing, and especially lobstering in the Florida Keys. Few things pleased him more than a day on the water and returning with his limit of lobster.

A significant chapter of Tom’s life was shared with his former wife, Melinda McPherson, with whom he was married for 39 years and raised their son, Tony. Together they built a family and shared nearly four decades of life and memories.

In the later years of his life, one of Tom’s greatest joys was being a grandfather. He shared a particularly special bond with his granddaughter, Ophelia, and enthusiastically embraced his role as her adventure partner. Their regular outings together created memories that will remain an important part of his legacy.

Tom is survived by his wife, Andrea Hernandez D’Aiuto; his son, Anthony “Tony” D’Aiuto; his granddaughter, Ophelia D’Aiuto; and his six siblings, John D’Aiuto, Patricia D’Aiuto Gruber, Deborah D’Aiuto Logal, Virginia D’Aiuto Kelly, Mary D’Aiuto Strychalski, and William D’Aiuto. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary D’Aiuto.

Tom lived a life filled with travel, motorcycles, investigations, open water, and stories collected along the way. He will be remembered by those who knew him for the many chapters of a life that was seldom quiet and certainly never uneventful.
