Obituary

Susan Kay Adams was a beautiful wife, awesome mother, loving daughter, caring friend, & God-fearing soul who lit up the room with her smile & laughter. Every person who got the opportunity to become close with her knew that she was a loyal & trusted guide in both friendship & life in any way they needed. She was known as a "2nd Mom" to so many. She went above & beyond when it came to helping others, but her lasting legacy will continue to be the enormous & limitless love carried forward by her husband & children who will miss her more than life itself. She believed in God above all else & always carried her faith forward, not only as she battled her unrelenting disease, but also in how she lived her life by serving others.  She was born November 3rd, 1968 in Logansport, Indiana and she passed away October 6th, 2022 in  Sun City Center, Florida – she was just 53 years of age at the time of her passing.

She valiantly struggled against an incurable form of metastatic cancer for 10 years – this ultimately led to many related health challenges too great to overcome despite her desire to fight it off so she could see her kids get married & have grandchildren one day. This was her biggest dream in life, & it kept driving her forward despite the inconsistent prognosis of many doctors over the years.

She married on August 1st, 1992 for 30 celebratory years to her best friend Tim after meeting him first in 1990 as he began his final year at Indiana State University. Their romance was grounded in friendship & mutual respect, while their tremendous love for each other was known by all. It started with the first magical kiss on her birthday in 1990 & just took off from there. As a result of their union, they created three unbelievably beautiful & talented children, which truly meant more to her than anything else in this world. Grace (26), Turner (23), & Abbey (22). They were her everything in life without doubt & they completed her puzzle.

She earned her associates degree in 1992 from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana, & was just 2 classes shy of earning her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education this year, which would have fulfilled her lifelong goal of teaching in her own classroom.

She worked in various capacities for professional / medical offices, teacher's assistant in various schools, Pre-K teacher, ladies softball coach, gymnastics coach, & private nanny as she always supported her husband's career growth first & their many relocations all across the country.

Hobbies included: gymnastics, full-time cheerleader for the kids at their sporting events, volunteering for school functions/events, spending time at many Florida beaches, going to Cubs games, going to Notre Dame football games, attending concerts, & traveling on vacation with loved ones.

She is survived by her mother Carole McGhee, adoptive father Harry Richter, step-father Harold McGhee, her brothers Keith Kellenburger (Lisa) & Kevin Kellenburger (Amy), & sister Karen McGhee Millette (Dennis).

She will be reunited with many grandparents in heaven: Dorothy & Harry Richter, Margery & Charles Hardt, Lillian & Clarence Kundert, Mary & James Adams.

Alpha Omicron Pi sorority sisterhood meant so much to her during her college years and also in her life beyond. Her sisters shared unbreakable bonds of love, trust, support, & celebration in life, which would never be forgotten as she moved all around the country over the years.

In her final weeks, days, & hours she was surrounded by her biggest fans in life. Despite having to spend weeks in the hospital & intensive care, many doctors, nurses, & caregivers all knew how badly she wanted to fight to live for those who meant the most to her, but her body just wouldn't allow that to happen. As we all came to grips with this tragic news, she firmly stated that she was not afraid, she was at peace with decisions she made along the way, she was looking forward to reuniting with loved ones in heaven, and she wanted to ensure her kids & husband wrapped each other in their arms for the rest of their lives in her memory.

To say she will be missed by so many is a great under-statement. She was a special light in this world. Her smile was legendary. Her blue eyes shined brightly. And she is simply irreplaceable.
