Sophie Jankowitz, 88
Sophie Jankowitz, aged 88, died peacefully and of natural causes on September 21st at the LifePath Hospice House in Ruskin, Fl. Sophie was born on July 15th, 1927 at home in Perth Amboy, NJ to Wasyl and Mary Dry-Henich. Sophie was the youngest of 3 children that included her oldest brother John and older brother Metro.
Sophie was an over achiever throughout her school days, graduating High School at 16. Sophie attended St. Barnabas School of Nursing program to prepare to support the World War II effort. After graduating, Sophie spent the next several years nursing at St Barnabas Hospital in Newark, NJ before leaving to raise a family of 5. Sophie married her High School sweetheart, Frank, shortly after his return from serving in Germany during WW II and they lived happily together for the next 60 years.
The couple moved from Perth Amboy to Bridgewater, NJ in 1956 where they raised their family before retiring to Rutherfordton, NC in 1995. Sophie was very active in her church, St Joseph's in Bound Brook, NJ heading up many fund raising activities over a 20 year period. Sophie was also very active in the schools' PTA programs as well.
Sophie was predeceased by her Husband, Frank and son, Jim. Sophie is survived by her children Ken, Chuck, Francesca McElroy and Vanessa and their spouses Kim, Donna, Mike and Jim's wife, Eve. Her Grandchildren Michael, Gary, Jason, Alanna, Michael, Alexa, P.J. and Nina and her 7 Great Grandchildren.
There will be a private service for family members at Serenity Meadows Cemetery, in Riverview, Fl. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to St. Jude's Children Hospital @ https://www.stjude.org/ under the "ways to give" section.
