IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sherry
Holmberg
September 15, 1939 – January 14, 2025
Sherrill Holmberg passed away at home in Dover, Florida on January 14, 2025, at the age of 85. She is survived by Douglas, her husband of sixty-one years, their two daughters, Liese (Keith) Craig and Kristin (Keith) Hicks, by their grandchildren Olivia, Madeline, Jarrett, and Ella, as well as Lacey, Lane, and Layla, and by her brother, Brent Lewis. She was preceded in death by her son, Greg Holmberg, and by her parents Roland and Olive Lewis. She was loved by many other family members and friends.
Sherry was born in 1939 in San Antonio, Texas. In 1946 her family moved to Temple Terrace, Florida, where her father was a member of the founding administration of Florida College. She attended Florida College and Abilene Christian College. She met Douglas Holmberg when they were both teachers at Horace Mann Junior High in Brandon, Florida, and they were married in 1963.
Those who knew her well know that she loved shopping, decorating, a good beach vacation sunset, spending time with family and friends, doing things to help others, and following the Tampa Bay Rays.
Anyone who spoke to her quickly discovered that her greatest passion was for everyone she knew to be headed toward heaven. She was a dedicated student of God's word, an active member of the Brandon Church of Christ, and truly wanted to understand and live God's will, and to help and encourage others to do the same.
In her later years she spoke often of looking forward to being with her Lord, and the last note the family found on her notepad was a line she liked from a movie, "I'm going to sit down and wait for my call to glory." While it brings us sadness for her to no longer be here with us, it is a comfort and a blessing to picture her in her true heavenly home, where she longed to be.
A private family service was held on January 18, at Serenity Meadows in Riverview, Florida.
