Obituary

Samuel "Sam" C. Della Sala Sr., 95, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his devoted family on June 10, 2022.

Sam was born on July 28, 1926 to Rafaelle and Sabina (Natale) Della Sala.  He spent his childhood and young adult life in Orange, NJ.

He excelled as a heavy-duty machine operator for over 50 years for C. Salvatore and Sons/Marbro Inc.  He was a proud original member of Local 825, International Union of Operating Engineers and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Orange.

He was married to the love of his life, Eleonora "El" Symborski.  They had a loving relationship for almost 60 years until her passing in 2005.  They raised their family of three sons and three daughters in West Orange, NJ for 23 years and then moved to Beachwood, NJ where he resided for 39 years.  In 2020, he relocated to his daughter Ellie's home in Riverview, FL where she was his primary caregiver.

Sam took pride in being the patriarch to his extensive family; often affectionately called the "GOAT". Being a master of all crafts, he could do it ALL and he wouldn't hesitate to "critique" your method.  In his younger years, he was an avid bowler; Sam always enjoyed home cooked meals and dining out with his family.  His favorite past time included his weekly trips to the casino to roll the dice and having a stiff VO Manhattan Up at the Chairman Club.  He was known for his strength and quick wit, took pride in being dressed to the nines and touched many lives with his generosity.

He is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, five sisters, sons Ralph and Carl, granddaughter Tara, and great granddaughter Samantha.

He is survived by his daughter Susan Tavener and husband Ray Francis from Toms River, NJ, son Samuel Della Sala, Jr. and wife Yong Leng from Chester, NY, daughter Ellie and husband John Shauger from Riverview, FL and daughter Lisa Henry from Dublin, OH.
He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.  Sam will be dearly missed by his family and his friends.
