Royden Archibald
Campbell
October 20, 1934 — November 29, 2020
In Loving Memory / Celebration of Life of
Royden Archibald Campbell
October 20, 1934- November 29, 2020
Royden (Roy) Archibald Campbell, 86, transitioned from this earth peacefully in his sleep in the predawn hours on Sunday, November 29, 2020, at the home of his loving daughter Ruth Campbell- Core and family.
Roy was born October 20, 1934, to Phillip and Irene Campbell in Westmoreland, Jamaica, W.I. Roy was the first son and oldest child of the Campbell clan.
Roy was a professional painter by trade, shoemaker (Jamaica). Roy was an avid gardener, who enjoyed the fruits of his labor, and a master domino player. He once attended a dance (party) and observed a beautiful woman on the dance floor who he said was a great dancer. At some point during the party he asked her to dance and the rest as they say is history, as shortly thereafter, he asked her father for his blessings for his daughter's hand in marriage. Roy and his dance partner for life, Daphne Edwards were married and were blessed with three wonderful children, Judith "Pat", Ruth "Joy" and Jason. Roy and Daphne migrated to England and eventually moved and settled in the United States. While living with his daughter Joy, Roy chose a choice location in the back yard and created what we affectionately call "Royden's Garden."
Roy was a strong believer in family and instilled a sense of independence and determination in each of his children and encouraged each of them to pursue their dreams and not to be deterred by any obstacles they may encounter in life. Although small in stature Roy was a fierce competitor, strong willed and not afraid to take on the Goliath's of life and refused to back down from his beliefs in right and wrong. Roy was a "thinker" keenly aware of everything going on around him. Roy was raised from an early age by his grandfather, Charles Tucker, who was the driving force behind his strong family values. Roy's grandfather entrusted him with maintaining the family property and not allowing government takeover, which Roy did faithfully for years after his grandfather's death. Roy gave his soul to the Lord when residing in Jamaica but recently (23Aug2020) joined his nephew's Pastor Carl Wauchope's church, City of Refuge South Miami and New York Live City of Refuge.
Roy was proceeded in death by his parents (Phillip and Irene Campbell), Uncle Ernest "Josclyn" Campbell, Aunts Eula Rochester, Selena Campbell. Brother Donovan Campbell, sister Paulette Campbell, nephews Radcliffe "Wayne" Campbell and Stephen Wint.
Roy leaves to mourn his wife Daphne, Daughters Mazie Campbell, Judith "Pat" Campbell, Ruth "Joy" Campbell-Core (Luther). Sons, Jason Campbell (Andrea) and Orville "Brooksy" Campbell.
Brothers, Granville Campbell, Trevor Campbell, Ervin Campbell and Clifton Campbell (Majorie). Sisters, Vinnett Wint, Corine Campbell-Chambers, Cynthia Campbell. Aunt Mazie Rosenberg (Bernie). Sister in Law Margie Campbell and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Grandchildren, Andre Campbell, James Smith Jr., Taylor Smith, Luther Jr., Devin, Gabrielle, Channing, Grahm Core, Ondrea Smith (Louis), Jaya and Jewel Campbell.
