Roger Steven Thompson, 73, of Valrico, FL, formerly of Coon Rapids, Minnesota passed away on August 30, 2026. He was born on December 8, 1952 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was the beloved son of Richard and Betty Thompson. He grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Edison High School before proudly serving his country in Vietnam as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota.

He became a championship boxer while proudly serving his country in the Marine Corps. He retired from FMC as a welder and was a sales associate in Minnesota and Florida for several moving companies throughout his career. Knowing Roger meant you knew that he enjoyed football in general but he loved the Florida State Seminoles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He enjoyed having gatherings at his house that were always filled with food and sometimes his famous spaghetti sauce or homemade chow mein, laughter, love, and unforgettable memories.

He is survived by his wife and the love of his life Anna Thompson and they were married for 29 years. Also surviving are his children, Jason (Kimberley) Thompson, Gretchen (Clint) Sjerven, Eric (Sonya) Cervantes, Jason (Sabrina) Cervantes, and Zachary (Tira) Thompson. His grandchildren, Cody, Ashley, JJ, CJ, Cassidy, Cadence, Jacob, Giana, Mason, Gavin, Brayden, Maggie, and AnnaLeia and great-grandchildren, Josiah, Louie, Nyla, Ziporah, Alice, Nayeliz, Tripp and Aniya, all of whom he loved deeply. Also surviving are his brother, Randy Thompson, and sister, Barb Beaman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Betty Thompson, his brothers, Dick and Bob Thompson and several beloved family members.

Every year the children looked forward to going to Papa’s house for Christmas Eve where he would sit in his chair with all of them gathered around and read The Night Before Christmas to them.

There will be a memorial service on September 19, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park and Funeral Home located at 6919 Providence Road, Riverview, Florida, 33578 followed by a celebration of life at Keith’s Oaks Bar and Grill located at 108 Lithia Pinecrest Rd, Brandon, Florida 33511
