Obituary

Robert Gary Worthington, 76, passed away on June 5th, 2025. Bob was born January 6, 1949, in Enid, Oklahoma to Everett Morris Worthington and Virginia Munson Worthington.

Reared as a military child, Bob lived in many States and the U.K. He graduated from West Point and was commissioned into the USAF. Bob served 30 years, attaining the rank of Colonel. Upon retirement, he spent another 15 years as a military consultant. His many assignments included, Photo mapping, Hurricane Hunter, a JSOC assignment at Ft. Bragg, Commander of the Compass Call Squadron (electronic warfare)in Sembach, Germany, and the Air Force attaché to the Philippine Embassy in Manila.

Bob married the former Patricia Mahoney 3 days after graduation and their military career began. They had 3 children, Jason, Judi, and Anne. Bob has 6 grandchildren Chloe Lewis, Aiden Lewis, Talulah Hoel, Maggie Dardis, Colin Dardis, and Summers Worthington. As well as several Nieces and nephews. Some of them enjoy telling tales of Bob's camping trips.

Bob had many hobbies and enjoyed them throughout his life. He enjoyed golf, snorkeling, water skiing, snow skiing, bridge, biking, and racquet ball. You could also find Bob at TopGolf with Rich and Kay. He enjoyed listening to music with his favorites being Led Zeppelin, Cat Stevens, Willy Nelson, George Jones, Andre Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, and the Eagles.  He loved cruising and was a great dancer.

When Bob wasn't with his family or participating in one of his many hobbies, he was volunteering. He volunteered for the DAV driving patients to Hailey house in a van with his name on the side! Bob never met a stranger, always had a big smile on his face, and a "Hello" to everyone.

Bob is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, Two half-sisters, Sharron Elsen and Pamela McBride and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wonderful brothers-in-law and sister-in-law.

Bob fought an indomitable 4-year battle with sarcoma till the very end.


A Celebration of Life will be held for Bob at Buckhorn Golf and Country Club in Valrico. Please check back for further updates.
