Lt. Col. Robert Samuel Sands Sr. of Sun City passed away Monday, November 18, 2019, due to natural causes. He was 87 years young.

Robert (Bob) Sands was born on May 4, 1932, to parents Robert Lee and Annie Weatherford Sands of Lynnville, Tennessee. Bob graduated from Jones High School in 1950 where he excelled in football and basketball. In 1954 he graduated from Tennessee Tech University and was commissioned as a 2 ^nd Lt. through the R.O.T.C. program to begin his stellar military career. Lt. Col. Bob Sands is a Master Army Aviator and decorated two-tour Vietnam War Veteran who proudly served our country for 20 years. Upon retiring he became a Real Estate Broker. He owned/brokered Bob Sands Realty ERA in Brandon, Florida, for years.

Bob met his match in Ellen Glover Wright and married her on July 1, 1955 in San Marcos, Texas. They had three children; Nancy E. Holton, Robert Samuel Jr., and Teresa Jeanette. Bob Sands was preceded in death by his extraordinary wife Ellen, his youngest daughter Teresa, and her better half, George Ollinger. In addition to his beloved parents, Bob Sands was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph Darwin Sands and Randal Howard Sands. Loved and sadly missed, may they rest in peace.

Bob Sands is survived by his oldest daughter, Nancy H. Wallace and husband Bleu, his son Robert Sands Jr. and wife Merri, 7 Grandchildren; Heather Davies, Shanna Busbin, Shawn Wallace, Maj. Rory Yarbrough, Nikita Worrell, Garnet & Garrett Ollinger, their spouses and 20 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Lawrence D. Sands (and wife Sandy) of Lynnville, TN, and Judge Bobby Sands (and wife Beth) of Columbia, TN, and sister-in-law Cecilia Sands of Franklin, TN.
