IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert A
Olson
February 2, 1936 – October 17, 2024
Robert A.Olson,"Bob," passed away peacefully Thursday, October 17, 2024, with his wife and daughter by his side after complications from surgery.
Bob was born February 2, 1936 in Auburn, New York to Olaf and Karin (Berg) Olson, who immigrated to NY from Sweden in the late 1920's. From a very early age he was fascinated by tools, machines and how things worked. He graduated from Union Springs High School in 1953 and went on to study engineering first at Mohawk Valley Technical Institute in Utica, NY where he graduated in 1955. He continued his education at Tri-State College in Angola, Indiana where he received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1960.
Bob met the love of his life, Nancy on Thanksgiving Day, 1959 and they were married on June 17,1961 in Ohio. After marrying, they moved to Cincinnati, where their daughter Lynn was born in 1967. Bob worked as a mechanical engineer for Fosdick, LeBlond, and Teledyne/Precision. For the last 3 years of his career, he was Vice-President of Engineering at Jotco, Inc. Bob and Nancy moved to Florida in 2019 to be near Lynn and her family.
For many years, Bob was an avid cyclist, logging so many miles that he liked to tell people he had ridden enough miles "to go around the world six times!" After he stopped bicycling, he and Nancy could be seen out walking together every morning. He enjoyed family meals with Nancy's homemade bread, vegetable soup and cookies.
Bob was an engineer and a "tool guy" even when he wasn't at work; evenings, weekends and each day after he retired, he was in "the Shop," his workshop where he had an extensive collection of tools and materials. He was always busy, either building a tool, working on a project or thinking and designing the next one. Those projects often needed assistance from Nancy or Lynn! Friends and neighbors also knew they could come to him for help in fixing or making things.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Nancy, his daughter Lynn, son-in-law Rich Henry and granddaughter Lexi, as well as extended family in the U.S. and Sweden.
He was preceded in death by his parents Olaf and Karin and sister, Linda (Olson) Warner.
A Celebration of Life for family will be held in the future. Condolences can be sent directly to the family or through Serenity Meadows. If you would like to honor Bob, the family asks that donations be made to Habitat for Humanity or your favorite charitable organization.
