Foster, Robert L., CDR (Ret.), USN, 70, of Valrico, Florida passed away on September 2, 2015. He was born to Robert G. and Eleanor Foster in Gary, IN. While attending the University of Michigan, he met his future wife Kathy. They were married in 1967, the same year he enlisted in the Navy. Following NESEP training at Miami University in Ohio, he was commissioned as an officer in 1972. He served on both surface ships and submarines. In 1983, he earned a Master Degree in Petroleum Management from the University of Kansas and became the Fuels Officer at the Navy base in Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. He retired from the Navy in 1990 after his last tour of duty at USCENTCOM at MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL. As a civilian, he was employed by the Department of Children and Families in Tampa and by the Department of Health in Sarasota, FL until he fully retired in 2003. He enjoyed tennis, Sudoku puzzles, long walks, household projects of many kinds, and his travels all over the world including 46 countries and all seven continents. Rob also loved good humor, his good friends, and his good dog Ebony. He is survived by his loving family: wife of 48 years, Kathy; three daughters, Amy (Alexander) Cooley of Orlando, FL; Wendy (Christopher) Sellers of Cary, NC; and Kyley (Paul) of Valrico, FL; sister Jackie (Mike) Foster-West of Dillon, MT; brother John of Northport, MI; brother-in-law Paul (Sherry) Keefer of Charleston, SC; nine grandchildren, Eden, Asa, Dane, and Sten Cooley, Caleb, Bryce and Jaxon Sellers, and Chase and Maddox Martin; two nephews and three nieces. On Saturday, October 3, 2015, there will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home in Riverview, FL. A Memorial Service will begin at 2:00 P.M. at which time the family requests that anyone who wishes would share a short story or memory about him. A Military Honor Guard will close the service, and on a future date he will be taken to his final resting place at Florida National Cemetery. Memorial donations to either the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or the Friends of Hillsborough County Animal Services (www.friendsofhcas.org) would be appreciated.
