Obituary

Butte, Robert Eldon, husband to Juanita; father to Robert Jr., brother to Jacqueline Turnquest, Dorothy Reid and Ellie Edwards-Smith and husband Charles; stepfather to Stephanie Johnson; grandfather to Robert III and Tatyana; step grandfather to Ashli, Shannon and Jeffrey; uncle to Christopher, Kelby, Angelique, John, Randee and Jacqueline; friend to so many at his beloved St. John the Divine Episcopal Church and the members of the Sun City Center Winn Dixie coffee klatch, started his journey to meet our Lord on the morning of March 25, 2011. Bob's life started at Sloane Hospital in NYC on October 14 1932, the first born of three children and the only son of Clifford and Lillian Taitt Butte. After graduation from Rye High School in Westchester County New York, he enlisted in the US Army March 1951 during the Korean conflict, was assigned to the 92nd Airborne where he earned his wings as a paratrooper, which he wore proudly. He reached the rank of Corporal and after 3 years was honorably discharged, March 1953 taking with him the National Defense Service Medal. Following discharge, he used the G.I. bill to attend and graduate from City College in NYC with a Bachelors degree in Electronic Engineering. Bob who stood 6 feet 6 inches was constantly asked if he played basketball, instead, he was called to study the martial arts where he excelled to the level of Professor. In 1973, in Mount Vernon New York, he founded his own system "Jukido Jiu-Jitsu" or "The Gentle Way of The Spirit" which combined the arts of Karate, Judo, Aikido and Jiu-Jitsu. He reached the level of 10th degree and held the title of Grand Master or "O-Sensei". Grand-Master David Jones in New York inherited his system and said he will keep it alive and growing. O-Sensei Butte's extended martial arts family, where there are many black belts under him, are the force through which his system in the martial arts will live. He was also an aggressive and agile tennis player and attended Dennis Van du Meer's Tennis School. He received certification as Instructor by the US Professional Tennis Registry in 1987. He was an excellent firearms marksman and he loved to dance. His final love of sports was with Golf and true to his nature, he studied golf and taught golf to many students in New York. In June 2005 he and Juanita moved from New York to Sun City Center and immediately joined St John The Divine Church where he was active in church and community activities; the Men's clubs and taught self defense for a short time, the Amateur Radio Club, the Parkinson's Group and the Winn Dixie coffee klatch. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St John the Divine Building Fund, LifePath Hospice of Sun City Center or to the Parkinson's Association. There will be a memorial service on April 29, 2011 at 10:00 am at St John The Divine Episcopal Church. Robert will be laid to rest at Sarasota National Cemetery.
