Richard Edward Richards: A Life Well-Lived and Cherished
September 25, 1940 - November 24, 2023
Richard Edward Richards, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Valrico on November 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 25, 1940. Richard's early years were marked by adventure and travel with his parents, LaDonna and Floyd Richards, due to his father's Navy career. Richard lived in and visited in many diverse places, like: Beirut; Ankara, Turkey; and Oahu, Hawaii, before the family finally settled in Valrico, Florida.
A proud alumnus of Missouri University, Richard earned his bachelor's degree and subsequently served his country in the United States Army. His professional life was dedicated to safety engineering, with a significant part of his career working for Cigna Insurance. But it was Richard's personal life that truly defined him. A loving husband to Nancy for 52 years, a supportive father to Rich and Ryan, and an adored grandfather and great-grandfather, Richard's family was the center of his world.
Richard's life was characterized by his kindness, humor, and compassion. He never missed an opportunity to share a joke or extend a helping hand. His love for coaching his sons' baseball and soccer teams, and attending his granddaughter's sporting events, his passion for home projects, and his joy in spending time on his back porch are memories treasured by all who knew him.
Richard's legacy is carried on by his sister, Barbara Harriman; devoted wife, Nancy; sons, Rich (Karen) and Ryan (Ryanne); grandchildren, Allissa (Tyler) Hooks, Jacob, and Alivia Richards; and great-granddaughter, Aleia Hooks. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Myrtle Dipner, and by his parents, LaDonna and Floyd Richards.
We celebrate a remarkable man, and his life that was beautifully lived. Richard's love, presence, and guidance will be deeply missed, yet his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. We find comfort and joy knowing that he has perfect peace and joy in the loving arms of his Savior.
Richard Edward Richards: Forever in our hearts, forever remembered.
