IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Hermann
Herring
August 28, 1938 – September 10, 2025
Richard Herring, 87, of Riverview, Florida, passed away on September 10, 2025. He was born on August 28, 1938, in Jersey City, NJ.
Richard faced profound hearing loss from birth. He attended the Wright Oral School for the Deaf in New York City until the age of 17, and later earned a bachelor's degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Richard's career as Director of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for the State of New Jersey was one he was most proud of. He dedicated countless hours to advocacy and service, receiving the Distinguished Service Award for innovating services for the deaf community, the NJ Pride Award for outstanding achievement in social services, an Honorary Citation for his leadership in establishing the NJ Relay Services, and a Professional Accomplishment Award for state employees. He was also honored with numerous letters of commendation from business leaders, elected officials, and government representatives.
As a father, he loved his family and provided a solid foundation for his children through hard work and dedication. Raising his family in Scotch Plains and Basking Ridge, New Jersey, created countless precious memories of vacations to Florida and the Jersey Shore, pool parties, backyard barbecues, visiting with friends and family, and cherished holiday gatherings and traditions.
He is survived by his wife, Margarita; his 4 children, Denise, Debbie, Rick, and Lila; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his siblings; as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held on September 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Serenity Meadows, 6919 Providence Road, Riverview, Florida 33578.
We find comfort in knowing that Dad's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will forever cherish.
Though he lived without sound, we take solace in knowing he now hears eternal peace.
