Obituary

Alence, Richard Charles ("Rick"), 81, of Lithia, FL, passed away March 21, 2022, from complications of Parkinson's disease. Born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, on May 8, 1940, he was raised in New York (Brooklyn, Buffalo, and Dobbs Ferry) and graduated from Dobbs Ferry High School. He later resided for nearly thirty years in Goldens Bridge, NY, then for the past twenty years in Lithia. A certified public accountant (CPA) and tax lawyer, he earned an undergraduate degree in accounting (BBA) from Iona College and a law degree (JD) and master of law degree (LLM) from the University of Bridgeport.  He spent most of his career at Texaco, where he was known for his strong principles and work ethic, ultimately serving as assistant general tax manager of Chevron-Texaco.

He is preceded in death by his parents Richard William ("Dick") and Margaret ("Marge") Alence and by a daughter, BethAnn, who passed away within hours of birth. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (nee Petronis, "Beth"); his sister Patricia ("Pat") Schapira; his children Rod, Ellen, Wendy, and MaryBeth; his grandchildren Mark, James, Gillian, and Keenan (who all knew him as "Brick"); eleven nieces and nephews; his health aide Marva; and his beloved furry friend and protector, Flicka ("Flick").

An avid athlete who ran daily for much of his life, Rick had memorable sporting achievements – from winning the Middle Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference tennis singles championship in 1961 to pitching a no-hitter in the Brandon Senior Softball League in 2006. He loved early rock and roll and doo-wop and possessed an encyclopedic ability to identify titles, artists, and years of songs. Rick was a private person, honest and kind, who cherished his wife and took pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
