Obituary

Olive "Jelly" Gloria Brown

Olive Gloria Brown affectionately known as "Jelly", passed away on July 31, 2024, in Ruskin, Florida at the age of 80. Born on August 29, 1943, in Port Maria, St. Mary, Jamaica, W.I., she was the daughter of Linneth Grandison and Sylester Anderson. Olive was a woman of immense strength and determination. After moving to the United States from Jamaica, she worked tirelessly to ensure a better life for her family, including securing the migration of her eight children and her mother to the States. In Jamaica, her early career included working as a bus conductor on JOS buses, where she was known for her resilience and protective nature. Later, she contributed many years of service at the Loews Hotel in Manhattan, New York, before retiring to spend more time with her beloved husband, Claude, affectionately known as Billy. Her home was a testament to her meticulous care, always immaculate and welcoming. Olive was deeply in love with her husband and dedicated her life to her family, embodying the role of a fearless, hustling "mama bear." Her hobbies included avidly following wrestling, shopping for quality clothes, and cooking. She was especially noted for her Christmas cakes and stew peas made for Billy. Olive attended The Lenox Road Baptist Church, where she was a valued member of the community. She is survived by her husband, Claude Brown, her daughters, Marlene, Debbie, Lisa, and Dionne; her sons, Clive and Phillip; 23 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and sons-in-law, Mark and Anthony as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Linneth Grandison; father, Sylvester Anderson; daughter, Donna; son, Richard; great-grandson, O'Shea; and sister, Beverly. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 11:00 am at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home in Riverview, Florida.

Serenity Meadows is assisting the family with the arrangements. Olive's life and legacy will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her
