Hargen, Nellie Sanchez-Hodes, 93, of Brandon, FL passed away on May 22, 2014. She was born December 15, 1920 in Comerio, Puerto Rico to the late Luis and Monserrate Sanchez. Nellie received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of Puerto Rico, and then spent part of her life working as a translator for the Census Bureau, a dance instructor for Arthur Murray, and with her first husband in their jewelry business in Puerto Rico until his death. She subsequently worked as a social worker and then home maker for many years. Nellie enjoyed many hobbies including reading, dancing, listening to music, and oil painting. She also loved spending time with her entire family including her beloved Scottish Terriers whom she lovingly referred to as her "boo-boos". Nellie was preceded in death by loving husbands William Hodes and Robert Hargen, her brother Louis, sister Marion, and five half brothers and sisters Celin, Peter, Monche, Hina, & Manolo. Nellie is survived by her son Steven Hodes, her daughter Denise Hodes Branly, son-in- law Keith Branly, her four grandchildren Billy Alvarez, Derek, & Michael Branly, & Miguel Hodes, and one great granddaughter Willow Marie Branly. We wish her God's love, peace, & comfort, and eternal fellowship with all of her family and friends that she now joins in heaven. Nellie was an especially caring and thoughtful person to all and will be terribly missed by her loved ones, in particular her daughter & son. Her passing has left a void in all our lives that will be impossible to fill. The family will receive guests on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 12 PM at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home.
