It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nancy Melinda Waddell, age 66, who passed peacefully in her home on June 11, 2026. She was surrounded by loved ones. 

Born on May 12, 1960, in Eau Gallie, Florida, Nancy was the beloved daughter of Virginia S. and John K. Waddell. She grew up in Florida, attended Brandon High School, and later graduated from the University of South Florida, earning both bachelor's and graduate degrees in Education. She was the first in her family to earn a Master’s degree over the course of eight years while working full-time, applying her tenacious spirit to a commitment to education. 

Like her mother, Nancy devoted her life to teaching. For 42 years, she was an intensely dedicated kindergarten teacher in Florida elementary schools. In 2024, she was awarded a lifetime teaching award in recognition for her outstanding impact at Cypress Creek Elementary. Her classroom was a place of learning, encouragement, and love, where generations of young children were nurtured by her patience, kindness, and unwavering dedication. She treasured every one of her students as if they were her own.

Following in the footsteps of her father, Nancy also served in the United States Army and the National Guard, where she trained as a respiratory therapist. Her commitment to helping others was evident throughout every chapter of her life. 

Nancy cherished all forms of life, and her laughter continues to ring out around us and remind those who knew her of her ability to find light in every situation. She had a special love for children and animals, and found great joy in sharing adventures with her nieces during summer trips to the mountains and rivers of Tennessee and North Carolina. She loved spending time with her life partner of over twenty years, Doug, with whom she shared so much joy. Doug and Nancy were particularly fond of watching the birds who came to her backyard each day, drawn by the presence of Nancy’s warm and nurturing spirit.

Nancy lived by the life motto, “take it easy,” savoring moments of genuine connection with friends and family. Whether exploring the outdoors, teaching a young child, caring for an animal, or lending a helping hand to someone in need, Nancy lived a life marked by compassion and generosity. 

Nancy was a saved Christian whose beliefs guided her life. She faithfully served others and shared Christ's message of love. While her family deeply mourns the separation caused by her passing, theyfind comfort and peace in knowing she is going home to be with her Lord and Savior. They look forward with assured hope to a joyful reunion with her in Heaven.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia S. Waddell and John K. Waddell, and her brother, Ken Waddell. 

She is survived by her sister, Ruth Weintraub (Russell); her brother, Jon Waddell (Bobbi); life partner, Doug Klingel; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, former students, and colleagues whose lives were enriched by her love and kindness. 

A Memorial Celebration of Nancy's life will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park, 6919 Providence Road, Riverview, Florida. 

Nancy's legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through her teaching, service, and love. She will be remembered always and missed deeply until the day her family and friends are reunited with her in Heaven. We ask you to remember Nancy as the fierce, joyful, and kind spirit she was, and to hold her in your hearts with us forever.
