Michael Lee Barney (80) of Valrico, FL, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones after a brief battle with Leukemia. Michael attended Parochial schools through 9th grade and transferred to Harlem High School, graduating in 1962.

Mike and Lily were married over 61 years, moving from the Rockford/Loves Park, Illinois to Brandon, Florida in 1979. In 1987, Michael and his family moved to the Valrico area into a home designed by Michael himself. He also served as the project manager.

He was a car enthusiast with a passion for corvettes and muscle cars. Mike said he fulfilled his "bucket list" – He had a hole in one, drove a race car, and went to The Masters.

Michael was a man of many talents and will be greatly missed by his family! He was employed for 25 years at People's Gas as Director of Purchasing and Operations and completed his career at TECO retiring at age 59.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, William and Marion Barney and his brother James Barney.

Michael is survived by his wife Lily (Middleton) Barney and two daughters, Colleen Barney and Christine (Ike) Rooks. Siblings, Barbara Connors (CA), Garry (Suzanne) Barney (IL), and William Barney (NC) as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews, and three Godchildren.

Michael will be missed by his many cherished friends.

Celebration of Life will be held Sunday July 28, 2024, Buckhorn Country Club, 2721 South Miller Road, Valrico, FL 33596, 5:00-8:00 pm.
