Obituary

Maurice "Huckleberry" Lee Mullinax, Jr. April 25, 1966 – December 20, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Maurice Lee Mullinax, Jr., who died of complications from Multiple Systems Atrophy (MSA) Type C on December 20, 2024, at the age of 58, surrounded by his family. Born on April 25, 1966, in Biloxi, Mississippi, Maurice touched the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Maurice served his country for 24 years in the U.S. Air Force, living all across the world, from California, Arkansas, Georgia, Japan, South Korea and more. Maurice was inspired to see the world and give back to his country. He retired as a Master Sergeant. He instilled a strong sense of duty and selfless service in his three children who all went on to serve in the military.

Maurice was a devoted son, brother, father, husband and friend. He lived a life full of passion, dedication, and kindness. Maurice was celebrated in the local artist community. Maurice described his love of painting as not a hobby, but an impulsive passion. After retiring from his Air Force career, he pursued a degree in Fine Arts at the Ringling College of Art and Design. As a multimedia artist, sculptor, and carpenter, he leaves behind works of art that reflect the enthusiasm and curiosity that Maurice had for life. Maurice connected with other artists at the Firehouse Cultural Center in Ruskin, Florida, and glass artists working with the renowned Susan Gott.

Later in life, Maurice worked with Stefan Carpentry on large-scale construction and design projects. Residents can still see their work today throughout Florida at places like the Miami International Airport, Tampa's Armature Works, and more.

Maurice was a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, and he was passionate about sharing the joy of riding with his family and others. As the President of the Koushins Cruiserz Motorcycle Club, Maurice "Huckleberry" explored Japan with his closest friends. He attended countless rallies, planned camping trips and encouraged impromptu full-moon rides. Leading the pack on his Honda Goldwing, Maurice was known for his adventurous spirit, inventive mind, sense of humor, ice cream stops, and getting lost along the way.

Since their first date riding up the mountains in 1989, his wife, Corazon, was always along for the journey. Maurice knew he wanted to be with Corazon when they first met. They both felt that God had destined them for each other. Every year after was filled with love, laughter and adventure.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Corazon Mullinax; mother, Mary Jeanette Mullinax; children, Joseph Mullinax, Jacob and Ashlena Mullinax, Jenny and Shannon Mullinax; and siblings Christopher Brian and Raquel Mullinax; nephews Darian, Caleb, and Camden Mullinax; and niece Caitlyn Mullinax. He was preceded in death by his father Maurice Mullinax, Sr. and his cousin Tommy Mullinax.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 7 at 10:00 AM at the Serenity Meadows Funeral Home in Riverview, FL. Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories of a man who brought so much light into the world.
