Mary Sullivan of Valrico, passed away on May 29, 2018 in Brandon, Florida.
Mary was born in Philadelphia, PA to John J. and Mary Little Sullivan on November 27, 1937. Following graduation from Notre Dame High School, she enlisted in the Marine Corps where she proudly served at Cherry Point, NC. After her tour of duty in the Marines, she worked for the Bell Telephone Company in Chester, PA. Mary retired from the Philadelphia Inquirer after 27 years of service in Classified Sales, culminating as Classified Advertising Supervisor. While working at the Inquirer, Mary returned to the military and served in the United States Army Reserve, retiring as a Master Sergeant (E8) in 1997.
Mary is survived by her daughter Diane Huber (and her husband, Rick Huber), her son Stephen R. Janis, her brothers John (Anne Irving) and Edward Sullivan, her sisters Jane and Flora Sullivan, grandchildren Susan, Rich and Emily and great grandchildren Collin and Jaden, and many loving nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held for Mary at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park, 6919 Providence Road, Riverview, Florida, 33578, on Saturday, June 23, 2018. Visitation from 1100-1200 followed by Service officiated by Father Tapp from Nativity Catholic Church.
A Funeral Mass at St. George's Catholic Church in Glenolden, PA followed by interment at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA will take place at a time and date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Wounded Warrior Project or Women in Military Service for America (WIMSA). The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the medical staff at Brandon Regional Hospital, particularly the caring and compassionate ICU nurses.
