In Loving Memory of Mary Ann Lombard
(nee Barbarita)
Mary Ann Lombard, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and pillar of her community, passed away peacefully at Melech Hospice House, leaving behind a legacy of boundless love, service, and warmth.
A Life of Dedication and Community Service
Born Mary Ann Barbarita, she grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, graduating from Westinghouse High School. Eager and hardworking right out of high school, she began her career working in the invoicing department at U.S. Steel and as a telephone operator for The Bell Telephone Company.
On May 5, 1951, Mary Ann married the love of her life, Frank Michael Lombard. They shared nearly 60 wonderful years together until his passing on April 2, 2011.
Mary Ann’s heart belonged to her family and her community. For an astounding 44 years—from the hospital's opening year until 2020—she volunteered at Brandon Community Hospital. She dedicated her time at the Information Desk, provided hospital tours for children, and was part of the very first chapter of the Volunteer Program. She also served as President of the auxiliary from 1988 to 1990. During her presidential tenure, she directed vital volunteer efforts and community initiatives, including managing the auxiliary-run hospital gift shop to fund over $200,000 in healthcare scholarships for local students.
A Heart for Family and Neighbors
An extraordinarily talented cook and baker, Mary Ann filled her home with delicious meals and sweet treats. Her vibrant spirit extended far beyond the kitchen.
Active Involvement: She loved playing bridge with her bridge groups, bowling on local leagues, and keeping score for little league baseball.
Faith & Fellowship: She was a dedicated member of the Women's Guild and the St. Anthony Circle at Nativity Catholic Church.
Open Arms: To Mary Ann, strangers were simply friends or neighbors she hadn't met yet. She spent her life tirelessly supporting her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and neighbors.
Survivors and Gratitude
Mary Ann is survived by her loving children: Sandra Ballou (Richard), Carol Lombard, Frank Lombard Jr., Daniel Lombard (Cheri), Gary Lombard (Susan), and Mary Ann Waldbart (Matthew). She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and her dear sister, Gloria Zinobile.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to her primary caregiver, her son Frank Jr. Her daughter Carol also provided regular care and support, with all of her children pitching in to create a true family effort that brought immense comfort to Mary Ann in her final years.
Memorial Services and Contributions
A celebration of Mary Ann’s life will be held with services at Nativity Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Nativity Catholic Church Food Pantry, continuing Mary Ann’s lifelong tradition of caring for those in need.
