Mary Laverne Herndon, (94), of Riverview, passed away on December 9th, 2024 in Lakeland, Florida.

Laverne Herndon was born in Woodhull, Illinois to John and Bessie Purvis on September 23rd, 1930. She married William Leon Herndon on August 11th, 1950 in Avon Park, Florida. She was a loving housewife, mother, and grandmother. She was passionate about helping others and always treated you like family regardless of who you were. She was always serving in the church to help spread the Love of Jesus.

Laverne Herndon is preceded in death by her loving husband, Leon Herndon, her brother James Hilburn Purvis and her sister, Ruby M. Swails.

Laverne Herndon is survived by her two children: her son, Ed Herndon and wife, Vicki, and her daughter, Beverly Clark. She has 5 grandchildren, Marcus Herndon, Doug Clark, Eric Herndon, Amanda Aycock, and Lauren Herndon. She has 10 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 1:00 PM on January 4th, 2025 at Clair Mel Assembly of God church located at 2415 South 78th Street, Tampa, Florida. Johnny Raburn and Kevin Cox will be officiating the service.
