Obituary

Martin Anthony O'Brien passed away peacefully at the age of 57 on October 23, 2023, at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida. He was born on March 27, 1966, in Washington DC to Francis Joseph O'Brien and Elizabeth Stratton O'Brien. Growing up in Washington DC and in Beverly Hills California, Marty was the son of prominent Washington restaurant owner Fran O'Brien who was a legendary Washington Redskins offensive lineman of the 1960s. Marty followed his dad's passion for food and sports, and studied culinary arts in Washington DC and Florence, Italy becoming an exceptional chef, owning, and operating his own restaurants.

Marty will be remembered for his immense passion for cooking. He really had a unique style, always wanting the food to be perfect. He didn't

care how long it took, preparation with the finest ingredients was his mission. With his exquisite blue eyes, and remarkable smile he would always say, "It takes hours to prepare and minutes to eat." Marty was both innovative and kept to the classics that his beloved mother, Bettina, cooked while growing up such as crab cakes, New England clam chowder, Lobster and Veal Francais. His friendly face around town was known for Pizza Rock, his discerning palate, and strong work ethic.

Marty had an affable compassionate nature, with a love of animals, showing generosity and genuine warmth and friendliness to all he encountered. Marty was very close to his family, to his friends, and his beloved dog Bella. His dream was to share his passion for pizza making to children and eventually open a school.

He will be remembered as a wonderful brother, a great friend, a generous uncle, cousin, and an exceptional son, who took care of his mother with grace and elegance, kindness, and fortitude. In so many ways Marty made our lives richer and fuller. We will treasure the life he shared with us.

Rest in eternal peace dear Marty. You will live on forever in our hearts.

Marty is survived by his mother Elizabeth (Bettina O'Brien), his sister Elizabeth O'Brien, and his nieces Isabella Michelle Vento and Giulietta Elizabeth Vento. He is also survived by his Aunt Rosemary Vincent (George) and many cousins.

As per Marty's wishes, the family will hold a private Catholic Mass of Christian Burial.
