An ordinary woman died peacefully at the age of 74 on July 6, 2024, in Brandon, Florida, and is safe in the arms of Christ. Marla Jane Geer's death, like nearly all others, went unnoticed by everyone except those who knew her well. It turns out there are many who knew her well—not only her family and close friends, but also the people she got to know through her 25 years of teaching K5 and her 45 years of membership at Providence Baptist Church in Riverview, Florida. All those who were deeply impacted by her life are now profoundly grieved by her death.

Born October 13, 1949, in Lincoln, Illinois, Marla Jane Geer (nee McCombs) was known as Jane to her husband and friends, Janey to her siblings, Mom to her children, and Grammy to her grandchildren (with one holdout, Hudson, calling her Granny). After coming to faith in Jesus through the ministry of her future in-laws and the Salvation Army, Jane spent most of her life serving others in the church, raising a family, teaching kindergarten, and then being a grandma.

Jane is survived by two of her children, Heidi (Mark) Dixson (Geer) and J. Ryan E. (Caroline) Geer, and 9 grandchildren: Autumn, Elliott, Makenna, Addison, Ada, Eleanor, Ezra, Jessa, and Hudson. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eldon and Jewel McCombs; her husband, Paul E. Geer; and her daughter, Heather Tejada (Geer). The sixth of 12 children, she is preceded in death by nine of her siblings and is survived by her loving brothers, Tom and Ron McCombs, as well as her sisters-in-law, Brenda (David) Flatness, and Beckie (Doug) Stearns, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

There will be visitation from 10:00–11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, with a service immediately following. Services will take place at Providence Baptist Church, 5416 Providence Road, Riverview, Florida.
