Obituary

Marilyn Gould, beloved mother, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025 at the age of 80 in Brandon, Florida. Born in Miami, Indiana, to Millard and Mildred Overfield, Marilyn lived a life marked by unwavering faith, heartfelt generosity, and vibrant style.

A dedicated educator, Marilyn poured her heart into teaching for many years, including time spent teaching third grade in Speedway, Indiana, and teaching computers at Coral Springs Christian School in Florida. Her love for education touched countless lives, and she remained immensely proud of her career as a teacher, always cherishing the opportunity to shape young minds and instill Biblical truths.

Marilyn's faith was the cornerstone of her life. Known by many as a true prayer warrior, she was always ready to offer a prayer — anytime, anywhere — no matter the circumstance. Her spiritual strength brought comfort and hope to so many. She had countless Bibles and loved organizing Bible studies throughout her life.

She was also known for her impeccable sense of style and flair — a true original fashion diva. Marilyn was proudly named "Best Dressed Woman in Coral Springs," a title that reflected both her elegance and her joyful self-expression. She brought beauty and boldness to every room she entered, expressing her personality through both her wardrobe and her radiant spirit.

Marilyn is survived by her loving daughters, Natalee "Hope" Goehrig, and Nichole Smylie and her husband, Scott Smylie; her cherished sisters, Beverly Carlson and Rosalie Rich; and her grandsons, Gideon, Luke, and Isaac Smylie. Marilyn was previously married to Michael Overleese (m. 1966-1989) and later to Richard Gould (m. 1993-2021). Her warmth, wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A celebration of Marilyn's life was held with an private gathering of family and friends on May 17, 2025.
