IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn Ann
Evans
April 12, 1930 – September 10, 2025
Marilyn Ann Maier Evans entered eternal rest on September 10, 2025, at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harold Ryan Maier, her infant granddaughter Marina Hale, and her beloved husband of more than 50 years, James David Evans.
Born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Marilyn later moved to Chicago, where she graduated from Rosary College with a degree in English and a minor in Spanish. Following in her family's footsteps, she pursued a career in journalism, writing for Rotary Magazine and Encyclopedia Britannica. After stepping away from her career, she spent several months touring Europe—an early sign of her love for travel and adventure.
In 1967, Marilyn and her family settled in Brandon, Florida. She became deeply involved in her parish community at Nativity Catholic Church, serving on the Parish Council, as president of the Nativity School Board, and as a member of St. Anthony's Circle. She also worked as a substitute teacher and continued her writing, contributing to Florida Trend Magazine and the Brandon News.
Marilyn was known for her adventurous spirit, zest for life, and her infectious smile. At age 70, she even became a certified scuba diver. She loved traveling, cherished her friendships, and treasured time spent with her family—especially her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.
She is survived by her sister, Carol Wehrley, and her six children: Katie Evans, Margie (Joe) Yglesias, Anne (David) Hale, Jimmy (Pamela) Evans, Joey Evans, and David (Jody) Evans. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Joshua Lambert, Joseph (Bianca) Yglesias, Megan (Joe) Rable, Jeffrey (Debby) Yglesias, Marissa (Rozette) Hale, Niki Hale, Gracie Evans, and Liam Evans. Marilyn was a second mother to many beyond her family, and she will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 17, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Seffner, Florida. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by Catholic Mass at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, www.mda.org,
