Rosemarie "Marie" Brown Regan, 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 14, 2022 in Brandon, Florida. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland J. Brown and was born in Binghamton, New York in 1926. She had two younger sisters, Kathleen Brown Stehm and Claire Brown Fanning who both predeceased her. In 1949, she married the love of her life, Walter "Walt" Adrian Regan, after which they moved to Miami, Florida where they settled, raised a family of eight children and were long time faithful members of St. Brendan Catholic Parish. In 2013, Marie and Walt moved to Brandon, Florida. In 2017, after 68 years of marriage, Walt passed away.
Marie is survived by all eight of her children: Michael Walter Regan, Patrick James Regan, Dennis Brendan Regan, Brian Joseph Regan, Marguerite (Peggy) Regan Martin, Diane Regan Goss, Kevin Lee Regan, and Terrence Sean Regan. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Education was a very important part of Marie's life. She earned her high school diploma at St. Patrick's Academy in Binghamton, New York where she met Walt. She then went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in English Literature from the College of St. Rose in Albany, New York which she attended on a full four-year scholarship. She was very involved in college outside of her studies. She served as the senior representative to the Student Senate, headed the publicity committee for events like dances and was a columnist for her college paper, the Rosaverian. In college, she was called "Brownie" and in the Rosaverian, she was described by another columnist as friendly, natural, self-sacrificing, cool, calm and collected which were characteristics she retained throughout her life. After Marie and Walt had five children, Marie enrolled at the University of Miami to earn her Master's Degree in English Literature finally completing it after their eighth child was born.
Marie and Walt, in later years, enjoyed Eastern Airlines dinners and the Miami Elks Lodge where she was a shuffleboard champ. She was also an avid reader and terrific at her favorite game, Jeopardy. She was a good listener and took on and embraced the role of life-coach to many people before the term was popularized. Marie was a wonderful storyteller and was full of wit and wisdom. She could stimulate any conversation with her spontaneous humor.
Marie was loved by all her family and those that knew her. She will be missed very much. Marie's family will be holding a Memorial Service to honor her life on February 5
th
, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, 6919 Providence Road, Riverview, Florida 33578. The family will be greeting guests from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be a private family ceremony held at a later date at The Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. In Lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
