Obituary

Margaret Bernice Smallwood Willis, 88 of Riverview, passed away on June 3, 2008. Margaret was a proud descendent of the "pioneer Florida" Smallwood family. She was born in Gulf Hammock, FL in 1920, daughter of Hunter Smallwood and Bernice Jones Smallwood. She was a member of Ruskin United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the DeSoto Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and a past mother advisor of Rainbow for Girls. Margaret loved to crochet and quilt and won many ribbons and awards for her quilting talent. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Josiah E. Willis; brothers, Lee Smallwood and Homer Smallwood; and sister, Dorothy Baker. She is survived by her loving family, sons, Josiah (Linda) Willis of Riverview and Donald (Ruth) Newton of Naples; daughters, Jo Ann (Walter) Mayhall of Riverview and Andrea (Charles) Lane of Tampa; brother, Bobby Swails of Ft. Myers; 19 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, 6919 Providence Road, Riverview, with an Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at Ruskin United Methodist Church, 105 4th Ave NW, Ruskin, on Friday, June 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Interment following at Ruskin Memorial Park.
