Obituary

Lt. Col. Sally S. Lynch USAF Nurse Corps(Retired) 82 of Valrico, Florida died September 24, 2017 at her home. Sally is survived by her Loving Wife Marsha Jordan of 34 years and married since 2015; sisters Jane Galle Finger, sister-in-laws Genie Lynch and Marianne Lynch; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children. She was predeceased by her parents Anthony and Helen(Thomas) Lynch, and siblings Jerome, Helen, Anthony, Leo and Mary Elizabeth. Colonel Lynch's career began in Nurses training at Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing, earning her RN credentials in 1958. Subsequently, she earned her BS in Nursing at Cal State University Chico in 1977. After working as an operating room nurse at Philadelphia General Hospital for 3 years, she was commissioned in the Air force as a 1st Lieutenant attending Officer's Basic Training at Gunter AFB, AL February 1961 with follow-on orders to Goodfellow AFB, TX starting her 24 years of military service as an operating room nurse. Sally had various assignments both stateside (Texas, California, Nevada, New Mexico and Florida) and overseas (England, Canada, and Japan.) Her Canada assignment was Goose "Damn" Bay (as she always called it), Labrador, Newfoundland where she learned the game of curling, even winning a small trophy during one competition. Sally was a very proud Vietnam veteran. In Japan, she was a flight nurse assigned to an Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron whose mission was flying into Vietnam during the Tet Offensive to evacuate the wounded out of Vietnam to numerous medical facilities outside of the war zone. She retired from active duty in February 1985 as Operating Room supervisor at the USAF Dyess Hospital, Dyess AFB, TX. Later that year, Sally moved to Valrico, FL to enjoy her retirement years in the Florida sunshine. During those years her favorite pastimes were playing golf, swimming and traveling. An avid football fan, she faithfully routed for the FSU Seminoles and the Pittsburg Steelers. Her Military Awards included, Meritorious Service Medal, Commendation Medal, Outstanding Unit ribbon, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal and the AF Longevity ribbon with 0ne silver oak leaf cluster. Col Lynch was also awarded the AF Chief Nurse Badge and Flight Nurse Wings. Interment will be with Full Military honors at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to the Women's Memorial Foundation, Dept 560, Washington, DC 20042-0560, Vietnam Veterans of America, 8719 Colesville Rd, Ste 100, Silver Springs, MD 20910, Society of Air Force Nurses Inc, P.O.
