Dunon
June 4, 1922 — July 27, 2020
Louise Gelate Dunon also known as "Tia Alicia", passed away on July 27, 2020. She was 98 years old.
Louise was born in the town of Gatun in the Panama Canal Zone, Republic of Panama on June 4, 1922. She was the daughter of Albertine Gelate Dunon and Venance Gelate, wife of Samuel Oakley and then Alfredo J. Miller, both of whose passing preceded hers.
Louise migrated to Brooklyn New York in May of 1962 where she resided until 2009 then relocated to Tampa, Florida. While living in New York she worked for Sheraton Hotel Housekeeping department, retiring in 1987.
Louise enjoyed travelling with friends and family, especially ocean cruises. Reading the New York Daily News was a must. She loved doing crossword puzzles and reading any book that caught her attention. She also enjoyed cooking, entertaining and shopping.
Louise made friends easily. She was kind and generous and did not think twice to offer a helping hand when it was needed. She loved dancing, especially at family gatherings and having fun with the grandkids. Neighborhood Kids always looked forward to seeing Louise going home from work. They knew that she would always have some goodies for them and Louise never wanted to disappoint.
Louise had such a beautiful smile, always welcoming to family and friends and lived by the motto "I don't let anything bother me". She never missed her Sunday Mass if she could help it.
Louise leaves to cherish her memory her brother Ernest Gelate, two daughters Marcia E. Austin and Rebeca B. Alvarez, one son Alfredo Miller Gelate, son-in-law Wilfred Bryan, nine grandchildren, Sheryl, Sonia and Scott Austin, Guillermo, Michelle, Xaviera and Alfredo Miller Jr and Lisa and Francisco Alvarez Jr., twenty-three great grands, five great great grands and numerous nieces and nephews.
Louise lived a full life and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A memorial will be planned and announced in the future.
