CLEMENTS, Loretta Straughn, 73, of Brandon, FL went home to be with our Lord, January 25, 2010. Loretta was an avid genealogist, quilter, cook, and gardener. Loretta was a resident of Brandon since 1963 and active in community organizations. She was Past President of the Junior Woman's Club of Brandon, served on the founding board of the Brandon Hospital Auxiliary, was a member of the Dogwood Garden Circle, secretary treasurer of the President's Roundtable and was elected Honorary Mayor of Brandon for two consecutive terms 1969-1971. On a state and national level, Loretta was included in the 1970 edition of "Outstanding Young Women of America" and was an active member of The Herb Society of America serving on its board of directors for several years. Always the learner, she completed the University of Florida Master Gardener certification program in 2002 and enjoyed working locally to promote gardening techniques and the use of herbs.
A most wonderful mother and friend, Loretta leaves a loving family of daughters LaMor Silas (Nathan), Valrico, FL: Renee' Stewart (John), Suwanee, GA; grandchildren Garrett Silas, Katie Silas, and Benjamin Stewart; sisters Pat Williams (Oliver), Enterprise, Alabama; Joy Macon (John), Niceville, FL as well as nieces, nephews and an extended family of precious friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10am Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, 6919 Providence Road, Riverview, FL. The family will begin receiving friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish, may make contributions to the American Cancer Society.
