Obituary

Lora Lynn Atwell, 67, of Riverview, FL, passed away on December 17, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Lora was born on October 29, 1957, in Tampa, FL to the late Virginia Marie Terrell and late Arnold Richard Langley and stepfather Larry Donald Smith.  She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Lora graduated from King High School in Tampa, FL in 1975.

She met her husband Dwight when they met in Church shortly after he arrived at MacDill AFB from Alaska in 1979. Just 6 months later they were wed and spent the next 44 years together.

Lora was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities through the years.  Her greatest joy was in teaching children. One of the greatest joys was one her husband and her got to share together as Nursery Leaders for nearly 20 years between two different Wards. People would often refer to us as Grandparents-In-Training.  Well, it prepared us well as we have five beautiful Granddaughters to show for it today.  Above all, Lora spent a great deal of time looking after the needs of her own children. She would walk with them to the Community Center for playdates, drive them to the Apollo Beach Park to play and trips to the Riverview Library and come back with loads of books for the children to read.

Lora was also a very creative person. She always went above and beyond for weekly projects for the children in her Primary classes at church. Her children also benefited from their mother's creative talents with school projects. She also worked with a church member in the creation of beautiful custom tombstones; not to mention tooth fairy pillows.

Lora is survived by her loving husband, Dwight; her children, Travis Atwell (Sally), Kiel Atwell and Alaina Pickett (James Schweitzer); her grandchildren, Alice Pickett, Olivia Atwell, Christina Atwell, Freya Pickett and Syren Schweitzer; and her brother, Buddy Richard Langley (Debra), nephew Joshua Langley and niece Kasey Langley.

A Visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 3, 2025, from 10am – 11am at Serenity Meadows in Riverview, FL and Celebration of Life beginning at 11:00am.  A gravesite ceremony will follow at 1:00pm at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.  All are welcome to attend.
