In loving memory of
LOIS JEAN SAY

Born in Kittanning, Pennsylvania to Charles Chambers Flick and Katherine Cunningham Flick on June 1, 1927, Lois Jean Flick married Frederick John Say of Ford City, Pennsylvania, shortly after his return from service in the Navy during WWII.  A loving and devoted wife to Fred for 50 years, they had 2 children, Ronald, currently of Florida, and beloved daughter Polly (deceased 2016).  Lois is survived by her son Ronald (Candace Hadley), grand-daughter Christin (Nathan Hollenbach), grandsons Paul (Rose Lieberman), Adam (Brooke Doman), and Mark (Christine Gooch), 7 great-grandchildren, and nephews David and Gary Bariff.  Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Fred (1996) and her sister, Ruth Jane Bariff (1998).

Lois and Fred lived for many years in Ford City, Pa. where she was a dearly loved piano teacher for over 30 years.  Upon Fred's retirement they moved to Lakeland, Florida, where they continued to entertain Pennsylvania friends as well as many new friends from Canada.  As active members of Ford City Memorial Methodist church, Lois and Fred transferred their membership to The First United Methodist Church of Lakeland, Florida, whose outreach ministry continued to support her through the balance of her life.  Lois traveled to California several times visiting her sister and nephews, and spent 3 summers with friends in Canada, garnering many delightful memories.

Possibly her greatest joy, Lois delighted in gifting others, be they family, friends or those providing service in any fashion.  Lois' love and care for others was deeply felt in her actions. This included award worthy home-made Divinity candies! Most often, such giftings were accompanied by one of her original poems, specific to the occasion. Known fondly, by her friends, as "Rosey", her chosen nickname because of her love for roses, especially pink ones, Lois was known in her later years by the even more beloved title of "GG", to her seven great-grandchildren. Lois continued to tuck a little spare cash in birthday cards to her grandchildren, even after they became adults, as a loving nudge for them to "do something special" for themselves.

Renowned for her Boogie-woogie piano playing, including several original compositions, and her flair for entertaining and cooking, Lois continued to delight in serving online recipe discoveries with family and friends up until the months before her passing. Lois was very savvy with chosen social media, including texting, taking, and sending photos, online searches for unique gifts, interacting on Facebook, and an unbeatable online backgammon player until failing sight at 95 prevented her enjoyment of the game. Lois maintained her own home, until weakening mobility took her to live with her son in the last few months of her life.  Lois passed, peacefully, in her sleep on October 30, 2023.

A Celebration of her life, well-lived, will take place in Virginia over Thanksgiving, where all her dearly loved family will gather. A small graveside service will be held at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park, Riverview, Florida, in early December.
