Obituary

Lois Gorbe, Riverview, FL (formerly of Waretown, NJ), 79, passed away on February 26, 2015. Born in Iselin, New Jersey, on August 14, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Margaret Christensen. She had an older sister Margaret and an older brother Leo. She worked at Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey as a physician's secretary, first in the Pharmacy Department and then in the Emergency Room Department retiring in 1995. Lois is survived by one son, Ronald and wife Dawn Gorbe, of Riverside, NJ and two daughters, Debbie Beckwith of Toms River, NJ and Sharon and husband Eric Young of Pfleugerville, Texas; five grandchildren, Steven, Kristina, Danielle, Sarah and Jakob and two great granddaughters, Peyton and Haley; three nephews, Lawrence Roach of Riverview, FL, Kevin Christensen of Forked River, NJ and Kenneth and wife Donna Christensen of Sayreville, NJ. Lois resided in New Jersey until 1998 when she moved to Riverview, Florida. She loved Florida and never liked to be cold, so Florida suited her much better than New Jersey. She also loved the beach, lighthouses, arts and crafts, going out to lunch or dinner, and travelling with her friends and her daughter Debbie. During her lifetime, she volunteered on a regular basis, starting in New Jersey with the Waretown United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Waretown Volunteer Fire Department where she served as President for several years. After moving to Florida, she was involved with the Riverview United Methodist Church, working in the Re-Store facility and heading up the Disaster Committee, even becoming certified as a First Responder. While on the disaster committee, she went on several rescue missions in areas that were devastated by severe weather. This was a very rewarding experience for Lois. She also attended Simmons Loop Baptist Church where she participated in the Women's Bible Study Group, Greenhouse Sunday School, and God's Older Children. After retiring, she had many part-time jobs doing many different things because she was such a people person and oh so skilled at marketing, promotion and fund-raising. In short, she was an amazing lady who was loved by her family, her "church" family and her many friends. A Viewing will take place on Monday, March 2, 2015 from 5-8pm at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 10am at the funeral home.
