Lillian
Tengelsen
July 27, 1925 — December 18, 2021
Born in Brooklyn NY in 1925 as Lillian Laura Larsen. Lillian was born to Danish immigrant parents who taught her the meaning of hard work and that God can get you through hard times. She spent her childhood on her grandparents' farm in Denmark when her mom got sick from TB. She moved to Staten Island in September 1953 after marrying her husband William. Their first date in spring of 1953 was a Billy Graham crusade in Ocean Grove, NJ. What a great way to begin a wonderful relationship and marriage. God was always the center of their lives and passed this down to their children. They were married for 62 years before William's death in 2015. She worked at Colonial Insurance for a few years during WW2 as a supervisor.
Over her life, she was a member of a few churches including Salem Gospel Church, Brooklyn NY, El-Bethel A/G, Staten Island NY, Riverside A/G, Sebastian Florida, and Bell Shoals Baptist Church. She enjoyed serving her Lord in many ways including Deaconess, Sunday School teacher, Girl's Ministry and Womens' ministry leader. However, her greatest joy in serving was singing in the church choir as well as in trios and duets with her friends. She always had a song on her heart that she would just start singing when the circumstance motivated her. Songs in English and her childhood Danish, all songs about God.
She is also noted for all the needle work and crocheting she did over her lifetime as evidenced by all her creations hanging on her family and friend's walls.
Preceded in death are her husband William, daughter Gail, sister Ruth, and brothers David and Herbert.
Surviving is her daughter Elaine, son Billy (Cheryl), grandchildren Kevin (Amy), Alyssa, Dalton, David and five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
