Lillian Adora Dopwell (better known as Shirley), 93, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and generosity. Born in Calliaqua, St. Vincent, on January 11, 1932, Shirley embarked on a bold journey in 1960, immigrating to the United States, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. Shirley was a woman of vibrant spirit, known for her quick wit, giving heart, and the kind of humor that could light up any room.

A woman of many talents, Shirley began her American story as a seamstress at Annin Flagmakers in Montclair, NJ, her careful hands crafting stars and stripes with precision. In 1976, she moved to Brooklyn with her devoted daughter Merlene Leotaud, where she found her calling as a certified nurse's aide - her compassionate care touching countless lives. Her patients adored her for the kindness she brought to their care and the joy she brought to their days.

In 2004, Shirley embraced Florida's sunshine, where she found great joy sitting on her patio admiring her lush garden, the vibrant flowers a reflection of her own colorful spirit. Whether enjoying her great-grandchildren or hosting impromptu gatherings, she remained the heart of her family until the very end.

She is survived by her loving daughter Merlene Leotaud; cherished granddaughters Tai Leotaud and Kim Bryant (Andre); adored great-grandchildren Ashton and Kelsey Bryant; her dear sisters Ivy Bynoe (Randolph), Christine Yearwood, Catherine Keane, and Stephanie Seals; and countless nieces and nephews, family and neighbors and countless friends whose lives she brightened.

A celebration of Shirley's remarkable life will be held on May 16, 2025 at Saint Matthews Anglican Church. The family is forever grateful for your support and kindness during this difficult time.
