Leonard Haywood Pate, 79, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024, with his loving and devoted wife by his side.
Son of Allie Whorley Pate and Grover Franklin Pate, he was born in Boones Mill, VA and later moved to the Tampa, FL area. After serving in the U.S. Army for two years, and the Army Reserves for another four years, Leonard spent more than fifty years working in the construction industry. He was immensely respected and trusted by many because of his vast knowledge and expertise gained from his five decades of dedication and hard work to his profession.
Leonard enjoyed building cars, taking weekend drives in his corvette, going on vacations with his wife Judy, and spending time with family and friends. He never met a stranger and was a kind and generous man who enjoyed life to its fullest.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Judy of twenty-nine years; his stepsons Mark Beckner and Brian (Mirisa Guerra) Brocksmith; his stepdaughters Andrea (Bill) Marcellus and Kimberly (Robert) Traynham; his cherished grandchildren Ashley, Brooke, Savannah, Nicholas, Kendall, Julia, Kinslee, and Zachary; his brothers, Thomas (Gina) Pate and Cecil Pate; his sister-in-law Mary-Ann, his niece Wanda, his nephew Jeffrey, cousins, and many friends.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Allie, his brothers Grover "Junior" and Richard, and his stepson Roger "Buck."
A Celebration of Life will be held at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, located at 6919 Providence Rd, Riverview, FL on November 1, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. and his funeral will take place on November 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., also at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the ALS Association (www.als.org).
Leonard's love of life will continue to inspire all who knew him.
