Brubaker
April 7, 1937 — July 10, 2019
Leo E. Brubaker, 82, of Valrico, FL passed away on July 10, 2019. Leo was a humble, gentle and quiet man fiercely devoted to his family. He enjoyed growing up on a farm in Hamler, OH where he was born on April 7, 1937 to parents Raymond and Elnora Brubaker. He served in the Army Reserve. He married Diane Thatcher on April 16, 1966. He moved his family to Naples, FL in 1972 where he was active with his 3 children coaching little league baseball and football. He also served on the financial committee at Lely High School.
He was always active in his church at St. Ann Parish where he served as Eucharistic Minister, assisted in Habitat for Humanity, Providence House (a shelter for abused women and children), The Rose Garden (A pro-life consignment shop), co-chaired with Diane the Hope for Haiti Gala set up and tear down Committee, and started the St. Ann Contemplative Prayer Group at the parish. He was also a member of the Builders and Contractors Association in Naples and worked for 35 years at McCash Glass. He financially supported and raised funds for orphanage efforts worldwide including Bosnia-Hercegovina, Liberia and Rwanda.
He moved to the Tampa area where he joined St. Stephen Parish in Riverview. He was inducted as a 3 rd degree Knight of Columbus member prior to his death. He volunteered at the Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy Office, picking up donated medical supplies to send to third world countries.
He is preceded in death by parents Raymond and Elnora(Mack) Brubaker; his twin children Benjamin and Laura and granddaughters Alexis and Veronica; siblings and in laws Teresa (Bruce) Smith, Mary Lou (John) Hoke, Richard (Doris) Brubaker, Harold, and George.
Leo is survived by his loving family, wife Diane Brubaker, children Lisa (Douglas) Lansky, Bruce (Karen) Brubaker, and Brant (Justy) Brubaker. Grandchildren include Cole (Jackie) Brubaker, Lorrin Brubaker, Karissa Lansky, Kyra (Kray) Freestone, Taylor Brubaker, Kelsey Lansky, Eden Brubaker, Davis Brubaker, Tessa Brubaker, Cate Brubaker and step grandchildren Adrian Nieves, Julian Nieves and Lena Nieves.
He is also survived by sister Beatrice (Neil) Jettinghoff and sister in laws Cleo Brubaker and Dolly Brubaker.
There will be a visitation on Friday, July 19, 2019 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home in Riverview. Mass will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church at 10118 Saint Stephen Circle, Riverview, FL 33569. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Eucharistic Apostles of the Divine Mercy c/o Dr. Bryan Thatcher or St. Stephen Knights of Columbus.
There will be a memorial service and burial of ashes at Woodlawn Cemetery in Deshler Ohio in the fall. Details to follow.
