Laura Jean
'Cookie' Gray
July 19, 1937 — April 14, 2019
Laura Jean "Cookie" Gray started dancing with Jesus on April 14, 2019. Cookie left a legacy of faith and love that has touched so many lives. Cookie never let being a polio survivor stop her from anything. She taught school, worked as a counselor at the Help Line in Tampa, was crowned Miss Wheelchair of Florida and helped begin the change in handicap accessibility when she met with then Governor Bob Graham. But the accomplishment that has changed the most lives and was dearest to her heart was when she and a handful of women opened the Brandon Crisis Pregnancy Center in a small white house on Moon Avenue. As the director for 25 years, she grew this ministry to what it is now - LifeCare Network of Brandon and Southshore counseling and supporting moms and families to make choices of life for their babies. Cookie is survived by her son, Kenneth, his wife, Mendy and her three granddaughters, Kelsey, Monica and Kayley. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 2:00 pm at New Hope United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, Cookie has requested that donations be made to LifeCare Network in her honor. Checks can be mailed to 122 North Moon Avenue, Brandon, FL 33510. You can also donate online at www.LifeCareNetwork.net
